Some printers will opt for low grade paper with very little chalk content and you can feel this the moment you rub the paper between your fingers. They feel thin and weak. Printing paper that is less than the standard recognized for checks is unlikely to give a high quality finish and the checks will certainly be less durable. In the worst cases the paper will not even hold the ink properly and this can result in smearing and smudging and even ink coming off on the fingers of the handler. What will you do if when the check arrives in the mail to where you have sent it is found to be damaged or unreadable? And this could so easily have been avoided. And all this comes at a cost to you because resending has charges attached. You cant ask the post office to mail your letter free of charge! By this time you might be thinking that you made a big mistake ordering cheap checks.
How to Avoid The Pitfall of Cheap Checks
The problem with a lot of the cheap checks available is that they infringe the standards laid down by the ANSI – the American national Standards Institute. These printers tend to skimp on important issues like security – and always to your detriment, not there’s, and multi-stained paper that deters chemical alteration of names and amounts, among other features. In the long run, you may be better off spending a few more dollars on checks that are ANSI compliant. What is more a check printed according to ANSI standards will always be accepted by any bank and will contain security features that are impossible to break.
My last recommendation is that if you need to order cheap checks then be careful – nevertheless you shouldn’t try to be over careful. Nearly all of the major check printers are totally OK.!
